役者・舞手・戯曲・作曲・映像作家

各地の演劇祭やフェスティバル、主催公演にて、パフォーマンスをしている。
作品制作のために取材から台本、作曲を行う。

アーティストとしての活動テーマは「神話の再構築」「歌舞（うたまい）」「自然の中の人」、そして「身体感覚」。

まだ感覚として捉えていない感性の可能性を信じ、それを現すこと、より豊かな命たちのリアリティを求め作品を創作している。

〈創作作品〉
人と草木、水の関係、実際の自然災害を取材し創作した『衣』『土と草と』。
市井の人と草を通して関わる目の見えない孤児・よろぼしが穢れのない心を追い求めた『よろぼし～手湯と草～』。
七夕伝説を題材とした人と天（自然）の生命の約束の話『天儛』。
江戸時代、新町に実存した夕霧大夫の霊性を見つめた映像作品『あはれ、春は』。
世に渇いた男が岩神や水泡の女神と対話し、人の破壊したみずみち（水の地下の脈）を護る決意をする『スサノオの庭』。
大都会渋谷にあった渋谷川（今は暗渠）に住む川の乙女をテーマにした即興『川の乙女』などを発表。

近年の主な出演・制作に
古代の感性と物語が凝縮された古代歌謡で物語を繋いだ大作、古代人の命の叫びを描いた「満つる～古代歌謡の気配」。
南紀白浜町主催 献湯祭にて「奉納歌舞」。
南紀白浜演劇祭オープニング作品『白浜の生命の喜び』。
国営飛鳥歴史公園 星まつりにて『星詠み人〜アサギマダラと天文図』など。

その他、役者、舞手として
『女人往生環〜パターチャーラー』（メメントC）、『野村幻雪（四郎改）追悼公演』（国立能楽堂）、『石牟礼道子・多田富雄 深き魂の交歓「言魂」ー詩・歌・舞』への出演。また、弥生時代後期の楯築遺跡、阪田神社の古代祭祀遺跡への芸能奉納も行い活動の幅を広げている。

体の本来の力を伝える身体クラスや、障がい、国籍を問わない表現WSを各地で行なっている。

Emi Nakae

Actor, dancer, playwright, producer

■ “New Body Sense” and Uta-mai

Emi Nakae is an actor, dancer, playwright, and producer based in Japan, who sets “a new body sense” and uta-mai (song and dance) as two main themes of my creation.

I have explored expressions that convey senses within my body and thoughts within myself to the body senses of others.

In my pursuit of a deeper understanding of the human-nature relationship and how the body was used in ancient Japan, I am keen on the study of uta-mai, a Japanese traditional performing art of songs and dances.

As a field researcher, producer, playwright, and composer, I aspire to create artworks which represent “interrelations between oneself and others”—and here, the word “others” means not only humans but also nature, and even time and space.

I often draw my inspiration from a wide range of Japanese classics.

My major works include “Ama” and “Yoroboshi; Teyu-to-kusa,” both based on Nohgaku (Japanese traditional performing art) plays, “Kusa-to-tsuchi-to” and “Kinu.”

In terms of acquiring knowledge in kinesiology and exploring body movements and techniques for my physical performances, I have been entirely self-taught.

■ Harmonization of the Ancient and Modern Times

My challenge is to harmonize works based on classics with the modern age and link them to our sensibility today, and further, to synchronize the feelings the classic works hold with our body sense.

To seek for the “sense” that leads to hope for life in the future, present such sense to the world through forms of artworks, and harmonize it with us and the world today; those are what I always wish to embody and what makes me continue working relentlessly as an artist.

■ Acting and Dancing

In my career as an actor and dancer, I appear in a number of films, video works, and theatre plays.
